At some point during the semester you will be required to participate in and complete a group project. Who has time these days to meet in person to get everything done? With GroupMe, you can invite all of the people that are part of your assignment and get all of these assignments done. On the other hand, you might have a solo project to complete but you know that some of your super smart friends at school can help you study effectively (and you can help them too). The Graphing Calculator app can help out with all of those advanced math problems in high school. Although you can’t use your phone on the SAT or ACT, there is no reason not to use it to finish your homework. It’s much more convenient than the good old fashioned graphing calculator and, at only $0.99, the price is right.
Seriously, if you don’t already have this one then you need to get it! It’s completely FREE and it’s very, very useful. The Dictionary definitions will take you all the way up to the SAT (but once you start SAT prep you may need to upgrade to the Oxford Dictionary). My favorite part is Thesaurus.com, which is included in the app. Have you ever had your English teacher hand a paper back to you with a comment like “don’t use the word “incredible” five times in one paragraph”? You should be using Thesaurus.com.
Okay, so you can never ever quote a source from Wikipedia. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t use the site as a starting point. Getting some quick general information such as answers to “who was Henry the VIII again?” and “when did WWI start?” is totally fine. Make sure that you go back and find more reputable sources with actual citations when you hand in your final draft! By the way, Wikipanion is also FREE!
This is an extremely cool app and I wish that I had it when I was a high school student. You can get organized in almost any way. On Evernote, you can even take voice notes that will sync to your home computer later. That is a great first step to getting all As! And yes, this one is also FREE.
You could be a math whiz (anyone can be with one of our private Irvine math tutors) and highly adroit at English (see how I used Thesaurus.com there [adroit = skilled and is also an SAT word]), but if you are not organized, all of that brain power could go to waste. You can have all of the apps mentioned above for a grand total of $0.99. That seems like a pretty good investment in your education, your future and your sanity!
