About Us

TutorNerds is a private tutoring company located in Irvine, CA. We individually match local students with highly educated, very professional, and super friendly tutors. Our tutors help students with all aspects of academics—including regular homework from school, standardized admissions exams (like the SAT, ACT, GRE, MCAT etc.), admissions consulting for college and grad school and more.

Our Story – As told by our CEO

Adam Sadri, here. I started TutorNerds in 2011. At the time, I was working as a private tutor in Southern California and noticed a lack of actual teaching and mentorship in the tutoring market.
There were three common trends with my tutoring students:
Students don’t learn the material from class
Students were struggling with the same basic problems with their academics—primarily not being taught the material well by the teacher in the first place. They essentially needed to be “re-taught” the material in a way they could understand.
Students are overwhelmed and stressed out
Students were overwhelmed with the amount of work they had, but had no idea how to handle it. Many students today are simply not taught how to study and how to learn!
Students need help with more than homework
They needed more than just homework help. Students who were optimally successful (with the least amount of stress) had “holistic” help for all of their academics, including test prep and admissions consulting.
In order to help my students I became almost like an academic “coach”, providing tutoring and guidance for my students in multiple areas of academics.

When I started taking a more “holistic” approach to tutoring, my students got better results with less stress. More clients were referred to me and eventually I began hiring additional tutors to teach with this approach.

The new “company” gradually grew and evolved into what you see today:

The importance of getting the right tutor

Traditionally students think of tutors as boring or not very helpful. That’s why at TutorNerds we individually hire the best and brightest tutors who are not only great teachers, but fun, friendly, and relatable.

In short: Students actually look forward to a tutoring session because it makes school easier (and more fun).

Top performers in any field (academics, business, sports, and more) have tutors, teachers, coaches, and mentors.

We believe tutoring isn’t just for when you’re struggling or “not good enough”. A good tutor helps you be the best version of yourself and maximize your success.

The myth of studying hard

We always say most students are worried about three things: Grades, College, and Sleep.

The problem is, most students think that the solution to getting good grades and getting into a great college is purely about working harder and studying more.

At TutorNerds, we take a different approach.

We believe it’s more important to work smarter—not harder.

Many students don’t even know where to start with their studying. Students don’t learn how to learn.

And if homework gets difficult and confusing, they don’t have any options for clarifying what they don’t understand. They’re left on their own!

As a result, students become stressed, overwhelmed, and under-slept.

And this does not lead to the confidence and mastery that results in success.

Thankfully, there is a better way…

Our tutoring solution

Students first need to be taught the material in a way that’s easy for them to understand. Then they need to be shown how to study in an efficient way that avoids late-night cramming.

We partner students with experienced tutors who make that possible.

While school might seem overwhelming and complicated, the truth is that it’s quite simple: Students need to master the material, earn good grades, and present themselves as well as possible on applications for schools and programs.

Now…this is simple, but not necessarily easy.

The key is to make this as easy as possible is to work with a tutor who can help take the thought and stress out of this process.

Available Online and In Person

Online Tutoring

Online tutoring occurs via our convenient online lesson space. This is private tutoring (in real time) just like having an in-person session—but it occurs remotely! Our online lesson space is easy to use and requires NO extra software. All the tools and features you need are built in: a virtual whiteboard, a text editor, a code editor, screen sharing, file sharing, and more. Both you and your tutor can use the tools simultaneously in real time, so it’s just like you were sitting together at a desk!

In-Person Tutoring

Our in-person tutoring occurs at your home or at a convenient location. You can choose any productive study space near you, such as a library or coffee shop. We’ll schedule a session at a time and place that’s ideal for you, and your tutor will commute to you! Your tutor can re-teach the material just like a classroom teacher—but in a way that’s optimal for student comprehension.

Our team of local tutors

A tutoring company is only as good as its tutors. That’s why we have made our biggest priority hiring the absolute best and most friendly tutors around. Every TutorNerds tutor is college educated, having attended and/or graduated from prestigious universities. They also have prior experience teaching or tutoring students even before working with us.
Many tutoring companies do not even interview their tutors before hiring them. Even after 10 years in business, we still individually screen, interview, and hire every tutor on our team to ensure students get an A+ tutoring experience.
That’s also why we offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee when you get started: If you don’t love the tutor we match you with, you don’t pay.
