Middle school doesn’t have to be so hard

Middle school can be a tough transition period into more serious academic subjects. It might be the first time students take honors classes, for math or English. It might be the first time students learn a foreign language. In addition, there are so many social and personal pressures! That’s why successful and happy students benefit from working with a great tutor. Most middle school material isn’t very complicated or challenging. But the key is to work with a tutor who your child can relate to, and who can teach the material in a way that your child can easily understand. That’s where TutorNerds comes in. Our expert tutors aren’t just great people—they’re great educators. Your tutor will re-teach the material according to how your student learns, and will help with all aspects of your academics, from homework to big tests.

Why our tutoring produces results

Because academics get more “serious” in middle school, it’s a vital time for students to develop confidence as well as good study habits and organization. These will pay off in high school and beyond. Students that struggle to get a good grade in world history, or feel like life science just “isn’t their strength” will continue to struggle with confidence in those areas. That’s why it is so important to set middle school students with a good foundation. It’s not just about being “smart”. It’s about knowing how to study effectively and efficiently. A great tutor takes all the thought and confusion out of this process, giving students the skills to be happy and successful on their own, and freeing parents of the uncertainty about their child’s well being.

Online Tutoring

Online tutoring occurs via our convenient online lesson space. This is private tutoring (in real-time) just like having an in-person session—but it occurs remotely! Our online lesson space is easy to use and requires NO extra software. All the tools and features you need are built in: a virtual whiteboard, a text editor, a code editor, screen sharing, file sharing, and more. Both you and your tutor can use the tools simultaneously in real time, so it’s just like you were sitting together at a desk!

In-Person Tutoring

Our in-person tutoring occurs at your home or at a convenient location. You can choose any productive study space near you, such as a library or coffee shop. We’ll schedule a session at a time and place that’s ideal for you, and your tutor will commute to you! Your tutor can re-teach the material just like a classroom teacher—but in a way that’s optimal for student comprehension.

What happens during a tutoring session?

Every student is different and every student has different academic needs. Therefore there is no set structure for a session with a TutorNerds tutor. However, here are some of the things you can expect:

Assess the student’s strengths and weaknesses (usually only during the first session)
A thorough review of the current material
Help completing and understanding homework assignments
Planning and preparing for the next test or quiz
Previewing upcoming class material
Overall organization, study skills, and productivity
