What started as me assisting my elementary school classmates on a few homework or in-class assignments, has culminated into more than 10 years worth of multidisciplinary TK-12 and postsecondary education tutoring experience acquired alongside my own education. I have always gravitated towards the English language arts, reading/literacy, and writing--both academically and creatively. I enjoy tutoring in those subjects and engaging with them in my academic, professional, and personal life. I take great pride in teaching my students how to engage with literature and writing with confidence, enthusiasm, and authenticity!
Teaching Methodology
I would consider my tutoring style to be collaborative between myself and my students. It’s important to me to understand a student’s goals and areas of needed/desired support. School supplied assessments or activities, and lessons of my own design allow me to see where my students stand initially in comparison to where they’d like to go. I like to see how a student works independently, and then determine how we can make adjustments to their current methods according to their goals. I find it beneficial to supplement materials or lessons in addition to a student’s school curriculum in alignment with what they’re currently mastering or their personal academic goals. I value teaching my students to make real-world connections within our lessons and encourage them to be curious and introspective about how what they’ve learned shows up in their daily lives. I facilitate sessions with presence, patience, and the best intentions for my students upheld throughout, and expect the same respect and best effort from my students!
