Experience
I have several years of experience tutoring students from elementary through college, with a strong background in Math, Science, English, and Writing. I specialize in Algebra, Biology, and life sciences, and have successfully helped AP Biology students prepare for their exams. At the college level, I have tutored English and writing courses, including supporting ESL students, as well as advanced Biology and Algebra.
I also have experience working with students on the autism spectrum and adapt my approach to meet each learner’s individual needs. I hold a master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences and have research, teaching, and mentoring experience that allow me to bring both subject expertise and a supportive, confidence-building approach to every session. Most of my students see significant improvement in both their grades and their motivation to learn.
Teaching Methodology
My teaching approach is built on breaking down difficult concepts into clear, step-by-step explanations and reinforcing them with practice and real-world examples. I use a variety of techniques — from visual aids and guided problem-solving to discussion-based learning — to match each student’s preferred learning style. I believe in meeting students where they are, whether that means slowing down for mastery or challenging them with enrichment.
I adapt my methods for each learner, including those with unique needs such as ESL students or children on the autism spectrum, ensuring that every student feels supported and capable. Above all, I create a positive and engaging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, building confidence, and developing the skills to become independent learners.
Why Choose Mariam?
What sets me apart as a tutor is my ability to connect with students of all backgrounds and guide them to lasting success. I don’t just focus on short-term grade boosts — I help students build confidence, independence, and a love of learning. For example, I worked with one ESL student from the early stages of learning academic writing through to her first college-level composition course, where she earned the highest grade in her class.

Other Interests
In my free time, I enjoy reading and writing, which keep me curious and always learning. I also love cooking and baking, where I get to be creative and detail-oriented — qualities that I bring into my tutoring sessions. Outside of academics, I’m preparing for the MCAT and pursuing my passion for science and medicine, which helps me connect classroom learning to real-world goals. These activities keep me balanced and give me new ways to inspire students to enjoy learning.
