Experience
I graduated from UCLA with a B.S. in Statistics and Data Science and am an incoming medical student. I have several years of tutoring experience working with students from elementary school through high school, with a focus on mathematics, statistics, and biology. My experience includes private tutoring, working at Kumon, and developing practice questions for SuperTutorTV, an online educational platform known for its SAT and ACT preparation resources. Beyond these roles, I've also volunteered as an ESL tutor and worked with incarcerated students through the Prison Education Project. Working with students from a wide range of ages and educational backgrounds has helped me become more adaptable in my teaching and better understand how to support each student's individual needs.
Teaching Methodology
My teaching approach starts with understanding how each student thinks. I often ask students to walk me through their reasoning so I can identify where they're getting confused and why certain mistakes are happening. I try to recognize what they're doing correctly and build on their existing understanding, adjusting my explanations and using different examples when needed. I also encourage students to work through problems independently while providing guidance along the way. Above all, I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and gradually building confidence in their own abilities.
Why Choose Daniel?
As a UCLA graduate with a B.S. in Statistics and Data Science and now an incoming medical student, I have a strong academic foundation in both mathematics and the biological sciences. My background allows me to approach challenging concepts from different perspectives and explain them in ways that are easier for students to understand. I've helped previous students break down difficult material into more manageable steps, making topics they once struggled with feel much more approachable. I also take the time to review each student's homework assignments, rubrics, and past quizzes or exams so I can tailor our sessions to what they're actually learning in class. I understand how frustrating it can be to struggle with a subject despite putting in the effort, and I take pride in being patient, approachable, and genuinely invested in my students' progress. Families can expect someone who comes prepared, takes their child's academic goals seriously, and puts in the effort to help them succeed.
