Experience
I am a highly experienced math and physics tutor with over twenty years of one-on-one tutoring experience across high school, undergraduate, and advanced college-level coursework. I hold a BA in Physics and a PhD in Biophysics, and I bring a deep, conceptual understanding of physics that has been shaped by ten years of teaching at the college level.
My background allows me to connect abstract theory to practical problem-solving, helping students build both confidence and mastery. I have a strong record of student success, including improved grades, exam performance, and long-term retention of core concepts. A central part of my approach is the development of clear, structured study aids—step-by-step problem frameworks, conceptual summaries, and customized learning materials—that make even challenging topics accessible and manageable. My goal is not just to help students succeed in the moment, but to equip them with tools and understanding they can rely on independently.
Teaching Methodology
My teaching methodology is grounded in active engagement and confidence building, particularly through guided work on challenging problems. I intentionally introduce difficult material in a supportive way, helping students confront and work through complexity rather than avoid it, because success with hard problems is one of the strongest drivers of lasting confidence. This approach is paired with carefully designed, detailed work packets that present concepts through tiers of problems with increasing levels of difficulty, allowing students to progress at a pace that is both challenging and achievable.
At every stage, my teaching is centered on the individual student and adapts organically to their needs, goals, and learning style. Over years of experience, I have developed a strong ability to recognize how different students process information—whether visually, analytically, intuitively, or through repetition—and to adjust my explanations and strategies accordingly. This adaptability is one of my most significant learned strengths, rooted in a deep sense of empathy and compassion for anyone learning a new subject. I am especially mindful of the anxiety that often accompanies math and physics, and I work to create an environment where students feel understood, supported, and capable of growth.
