Experience
My teaching experience includes serving for two quarters as a General Chemistry Learning Assistant at UC Davis, where I helped undergraduate students work through challenging concepts and problem-solving strategies. I have also provided English tutoring to a first-grade student from Korea and have spent many years informally helping my younger sister, who is ten years younger than me, with her schoolwork.
Beyond tutoring, I served as an Orientation Leader and later a Team Leader at UC Davis, which strengthened my ability to communicate with, mentor, and support students with different personalities and needs. My strongest tutoring areas are biology, anatomy and physiology, chemistry, and other life sciences.
Teaching Methodology
I believe effective tutoring starts with identifying exactly where a student's understanding begins to break down. Rather than assuming what a student does or does not know, I ask questions and work backward until we find the source of the confusion.
From there, I adapt my approach to the student's learning style, personality, and goals. Depending on the student, I may use guided questions, diagrams, real-world analogies, practice problems, or structured notes and slides. I especially enjoy helping students reach the moment when a difficult concept finally "clicks." My goal is not simply to help students get the right answer, but to help them understand why it is right and become confident solving similar problems independently.
Why Choose Hanni?
I am energetic, encouraging, patient, and genuinely enthusiastic about helping students learn. I enjoy making difficult material feel less intimidating and finding creative ways to explain concepts through real-life examples, visuals, and hands-on demonstrations.
I also have extensive experience working with children and young adults. As a Child Life Intern in a pediatric intensive care unit, I spent time playing with and supporting hospitalized children to help create a sense of normalcy during stressful experiences. I also volunteered for four years at a student-run clinic serving underserved communities in Sacramento.
I believe strong tutoring relationships are built on trust. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and telling me when an explanation is not working so that we can find an approach that does.
